In 2011, Johan Van Deursen bought Cryns Carrosserie Center, which at the time consisted of two bodyshops conducting vehicle repairs and refinishes in Antwerp, Belgium. By 2016, the center had expanded and consisted of six separate bodyshops, and was part of a collaborative network of 12 new bodyshops capable of providing coverage for fleets, lease and insurance companies across Belgium.
Business was good, however Cryns Carrosserie Center was experiencing many color-issues and by this time, it became clear that a solution was required. Mr. Musters, commercial director from Vanesch Verf Groep — an importer of AkzoNobel paint and non-paint products — convinced Johan Van Deursen to implement a ‘One Stop Shop Solution’, through Vanesch Verf Groep and AkzoNobel’s Colorvation programme. A demonstration of AkzoNobel’s Automatchic Vision Spectrophotometer and its color-matching capabilities was given, and implementation and training assistance for the entire network of bodyshops under the Cryns Carrosserie center network was provided.
By the end of 2016, each Cryns bodyshop adopted Colorvation and began sourcing both paint and non-paint products from one distributor. Not only did this solution streamline the supply process, but through Colorvation, each bodyshop was able to eliminate spray-outs, cut costs, and reduce errors and reworks. With Colorvation, there is no risk of misinterpretation; the right match is achieved first time, every time.
In 2017, the group recorded approximately 20% paint cost savings, reduction in waste, and overall improvement in speed and efficiency.
“It’s been a great year, thanks to Colorvation; we have not had color issues since we adapted its structured digital color-matching process.” Johan Van Deursen commented on the success of the Colorvation.
“We have made further savings by streamlining our supply process and switching to Vanesch Verf Groep, as our main distributor for both paint and non-paint supplies. Out of 15,000 repaired vehicles, we only required support in 20-30 cases. Vanesch Verf Groep also confirms that 20% of support required by each of their customers including with AkzoNobel has reduced — freeing up more time for making sales.” He added.
Overall, the 2016-2017 Colorvation trials have been successful. AkzoNobel’s seamless digital color-matching system has produced great results, providing substantial improvements for bodyshops and distributors.
